Description

An independent game studio committed to creating games that live at the intersection of systems and heart.

History

The year was 2014, and the Boston game scene was looking grim. In the prior year Turbine and Harmonix had experienced layoffs, and Irrational Games closed their doors, laying off 90% of the team behind the acclaimed BioShock Infinite. It was from this closure that The Molasses Flood was born. Left with the option to scatter to wherever the game industry would take them, or forming a new studio, a new studio was born. Originally founded by Forrest Dowling, Chad LaClair, Damian Isla, Scott Sinclair, Gwen Frey, and Bryn Bennett, The Molasses Flood debuted via a Game Informer feature in September of 2014 and a Kickstarter campaign for their debut title, The Flame in the Flood. The Kickstarter succeeded, providing the studio with over a quarter million dollars to build their dream game. The Flame in the Flood launched into Early Access in 2015, a year after the Kickstarter, and launched the final version in February 2016 on Steam and the Xbox One. In 2017, versions were released on the PlayStation 4 and later on the Nintendo Switch, where the game hit #3 on the North American best sellers list. After launching The Flame in the Flood, the team briefly worked with Double Fine to help kick off prototyping for Psychonauts 2 before switching gears to focus on Drake Hollow, their newest title.
